LUNÉVILLE EMBROIDERY
The essence of Haute Couture embroideries
Haute Couture embroideries are highly appreciated and cared for by all the craftsmen who create them.
They are the soul of luxury couture because of their attention to detail and the time it takes to create them. They are the reason why they are considered exclusive.
The art of couture embroidery, its precision and the patience required to make them are the essence of couture embroidery.
They are the hallmarks that distinguish a specialized embroiderer and add a touch of distinction to garments. Haute couture embroidery, in its most exquisite form, combines different techniques to create a design.
The difference between couture embroidery and other forms of embroidery is the technique used to create the chain stitch that holds the crystals and sequins. This is known as Lunéville Crochet.
This technique was born in the 19th century by Louis Ferry, director of a couture workshop in Lunéville (France).
He invented a way of using the chain stitch to embroider beads and sequins on the fabric which accelerated the process of attaching the trimmings to the fabric and
is considered a superior technique to the Indian Ari technique, which uses the chain stitch in a different way as it sews through the top of the fabric and inserts them into the needle.
In Lunéville Crochet, the beads and sequins are strung on the working thread and chain stitched to the fabric underneath the embroidery frame.
Therefore, this technique causes the beads and sequins to remain on the strand in case the chain stitch comes loose and unravels.
With the Ari technique, they can easily fall off and separate from the thread, as they are not secured in the same way as in Lunéville Crochet.
Knowing and assessing the difference in appearance between the two techniques and therefore their quality helps the couture customer,
investors or appraisers to determine the authenticity and true value of a couture garment embroidered with the Lunéville Crochet technique.

LUNÉVILLE EMBROIDERY
The most distinctive embroidery
The luxury House of Chanel, preserved and recovered this legacy of the nineteenth century and uses it in its Haute Couture collections.
Non-replicable pieces are created with great sensitivity in each handmade design.
The embroidery seen on a Chanel dress can require 500 to 800 hours of work.
Their Haute Couture creations acquire a high retail value to which is added the application of materials
such as crystals and feathers that complete the visual set and make it a true work of art.
