HAUTE COUTURE EMBROIDERY TECHNIQUE
This course is for anyone who wants to work on haute couture projects, or simply to learn this beautiful embroidery technique.
These are live classes, one to one, over video call — not a pre-recorded course. I watch your hands and correct them while you work, which is the only part of this technique that cannot be learned from a screen alone.
The course covers:
– The history of tambour (Lunéville) embroidery
– Understanding the materials and the quality of the surface you work on
– Rhythm, movement and structure of the design
– Correct execution of the tambour technique
– Correct use of materials and applications
– The natural flow of the materials
It lets you add a technique to your work as a designer or dressmaker, or simply learn a new way of finishing your own garments — with results that are unique and unmistakable. It is a technique you can build a professional career on.
The course is both theory, where I teach you the techniques, and practice, where you put them into your own hands.
It is a form of embroidery that asks for patience and precision.
The work is done from the reverse of the fabric, following a traced design, and can be worked with any kind of bead, crystal or sequin:
– Mounting the frame
– Choosing the right materials
– Getting to know the Lunéville hook
– First steps with the tambour hook
– Working several practice samples
We start with the basic stitch. You will be introduced to the materials, get comfortable holding the Lunéville hook, work from both sides of the fabric, and place pearls, cup sequins, bugles and half-bugles of different sizes, at varying rhythms.
You will also work with metallic threads and master the stitch in all four directions — top to bottom, bottom to top, left to right and right to left — along with chain stitch worked from the front and loading materials such as sequins and seed beads. We cover filling with chain stitch and seed beads, setting crystals of different shapes from both the front and the back, and the vermicelli stitch, among other techniques.
The first session is about getting to know the materials, mounting the frame correctly and preparing it to start. The following sessions are intensive: the stitches and exercises that make the technique yours. You will learn how to work with:
– Sequins
– Crystals
– Stones
– Beads
– Threads
– All mounted on silk organza.
*The programme adapts to your pace and to what you most want to learn.
MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED
– Lunéville hook
– Silk organza
– Scissors
– Beads and sequins
– Frame 40×60 cm
GOOD TO KNOW
– The course is taught one to one, entirely around you
– No previous experience needed
– You can buy the course with the materials kit included, or source the materials yourself.
The materials kit contains: Lunéville hook, silk organza, scissors, beads and sequins.
If you choose the option without the kit, I send you the exact list of what you need, with sizes and specifications, so you can buy it where you are. Shipping embroidery materials abroad often costs more than the materials themselves, and customs can add more on top — so if you can find them locally, you will usually pay less. If you cannot find something, tell me and we will find an alternative together.
NOT INCLUDED IN EITHER OPTION:
– The frame, 40×60 cm (60 €, includes cotton tapes and mounting needles)
You can buy it in our Lunéville Materials Shop
